It’s been a busy year for Paul VI Catholic High School’s music program. In addition to a Star Wars-inspired winter concert and a strings ensemble performance at the Volunteer Fairfax Awards Gala in April, the program looks forward to entertaining runners in the Army 10-miler race in October.
Don’t let the name “Coffee Cake” fool you, there is no coffee taste to it. It is a mix of snickerdoodle and sunshine. It is a tradition that has been passed down through generations of my mother’s family, and now I am passing it onto you. I hope you find as much comfort in it as I have.
Andy Weir’s debut novel, The Martian, began humbly as a serialized story on Weir’s personal website, but since then it has taken off astronomically (pun intended). Many who read the novel on the website requested that Weir put his story on Amazon, and he acquiesced, setting the novel at the lowest possible price. Then, as the book became extremely popular, climbing Amazon’s sci-fi charts, a publisher approached Weir, and soon, movie rights were purchased. Now, the film has been nominated for seven Academy Awards, a perfect end to the rags-to-riches story.
When talking about all time classic games, some that first pop into mind include “The Legend of Zelda,” the original “Mario” and “Pac-Man.” One game often left off these lists is a 2010-2011 era game titled, “Poptropica.” This game is the apex of the free online computer game industry and exemplifies everything good and bad about the industry. Never has there been a game with a multitude of stories full of intrigue, mystery, puzzles and good fun. While there are some bugs and problems, “Poptropica” remains one of the greatest games to date.

Created nearby in Rockville, Maryland, “Fallout” is a game series that takes place in the late 21st century after the nuclear apocalypse. The latest installment, “Fallout 4,” is, in my opinion, the greatest of the games I have played. I own “Fallout: New Vegas” and “Fallout 3” and I think that the fourth installment is the best.
In most books, the reader’s focus centers on the character who experiences the novel’s tragedy, has the biggest personality, or gets caught up in the whirlwind of the action. But what happens to the people around that main character? How are they affected by what happens to the hero of the story?
Adventures in Real Time is 18-year-old Illinois native Dylan Gardner’s debut studio album. Released by Warner Bros Records on Jan. 6, the album is gaining media attention. At press time, the opening track, “Let’s Get Started,” has nearly three million plays on Spotify.
This February, Bill Fay surprised many by announcing an upcoming album due in April called Who is the Sender?. Fay also released the album’s first single titled “War Machine”. The first single and various online leaks have revealed that the upcoming album will consist of alternative gospel songs that focus on the topics of war and peace.
